Objective
A fun football dribbling drill for young players, developing close ball control, first touch, changes of direction and dribbling at speed. Players race to collect the “treasure” while keeping the ball under control, encouraging quick decisions, confidence on the ball and competitive play.
Coaching points
- Keep the ball close when moving through crowded areas so you can change direction quickly.
- Use bigger touches when there is space to accelerate and smaller touches when approaching the treasure or other players.
- Encourage players to use both feet and different surfaces of the foot.
- Get the head up between touches to scan for space, other players and the next piece of treasure.
- Take a positive first touch away from pressure and into space.
- Protect the ball with the body if another player is nearby.
- Reward good control and decision-making, not just the fastest player.
- As confidence improves, challenge players to use their weaker foot or a specific turn when changing direction.
