Objective
A simple football dribbling drill designed to develop ball control, first touch and dribbling at speed. Players race between the cones, stopping the ball accurately at each target before accelerating away.
Coaching points
- Keep the ball close enough to change direction or stop it when required.
- Use slightly bigger touches when there is open space and smaller touches as you approach the cones.
- Encourage use of both feet and different surfaces of the foot, particularly the laces and outside of the foot.
- Get the head up between touches to see the next target and the space ahead.
- Slow down under control when approaching a cone rather than stretching for the final touch.
- Leave the ball still and close to the cone before accelerating away.
- Accelerate positively after releasing the ball - quick transition from dribbling to sprinting.
- Positive first touch - push the ball into space and move quickly after it.
